Erin MacLean, JD, CHC, CHPC

Erin F. MacLean, JD, CHC, CHPC (emaclean@fandmpc.com; emaclean@complyinstride.com) is a Health Law Attorney and Managing Shareholder of Freeman & MacLean, P.C and President/CEO of Comply In Stride, Inc. Erin operates the Helena, Montana based office of the Freeman & MacLean, P.C.  Erin graduated from the University of Wyoming with a B.A. in International Studies – Global Economic Systems. Erin later earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Wyoming, College of Law.  Erin also attended the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez and studied International Law, abroad, in Bangkok, Thailand, through Golden Gate University’s College of Law. Erin currently practices law in Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota and is also licensed to practice law in Colorado. In 2019, Erin earned her health care compliance (CHC) and health care privacy compliance (CHPC) certifications from the Compliance Certification Board (CBO).

 

Erin has nearly 15 years of experience advising business clients, in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, and, over the past 12 years, Erin has focused her practice in the area of health care law and related areas of legal practice, such as federal and state regulatory compliance, in various areas, employment law, transactional law, administrative law, governmental affairs, mergers and acquisitions and business planning. Erin serves as lead attorney and outside counsel for numerous health care entities, practitioners and other business operations within the health care space.

Over the course of her career, Erin has provided legal and compliance counsel to and advised hospitals, health care management companies, post-acute care clients, physician and mid-level owned practices, mental health providers and other health care entities and businesses operating in the health care sector with respect to business operations, business organization, business transactions, employment and employment contracting, mergers and acquisitions, health care and operational compliance and compliance program development, government investigations and Corporate Integrity Agreements, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement procedures, billing compliance and claims, and business and professional liability coverage, health information privacy and security, including HIPAA, the HITECH Act, the 21st Century Cures Act, drug and alcohol abuse treatment laws (such as 42 CFR Part 2), state health care privacy laws and compliance, medical staff bylaws and credentialing, and business and health care licensing. Erin has also provided real-time Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) response to healthcare providers and employers.

Erin represents individual providers, such as physicians and nurse practitioners and other mid-level providers, nurses, mental health providers and non-traditional health care professionals on matters related to professional licensing and complaints, employment and employment contracting and matters related to health care compliance and health care privacy compliance.

Since 2008, Erin has been annually reelected as the Chair of the Health Care Law Section of the Montana State Bar.  Erin travels frequently, giving presentations on health care law matters and advising on health care and compliance topics. She enjoys being able to live and work in the Rocky Mountain Region, where she and her husband raise their two children.
